The Dandruff Diagnosis

As the weather starts to turn cooler and our thoughts turn to Autumn…..

Dandruff is one subject we don’t want to think about, but for some, is a necessary discussion. Dealing with dandruff can be an embarrassing and annoying situation, but first it has to be properly diagnosed to treat. It is important to note that dandruff and dry scalp are two different things. Many times we just have dry scalp or too much product build up and not actually dandruff.

Dandruff is caused by a fungus that feeds off of our sebum, our natural fatty lubricant our body produces. Skin cells grow and die at a rapid pace and then clump together thus causing a mild to severe itching sensation and white flakes about the head and shoulders. Dandruff is oily while dry scalp is just dry skin.

Seasonal changes especially cold can set off a bout of dandruff and stress can be a major cause because our body produces extra sebum that the fungus feeds on.

Dandruff can also be in your eyebrows or even in rare cases on the facial skin.

Redken’s Scalp Relief contains PYRITHIONE ZINC combats the actual dandruff while GLYCERIN works to hydrate the scalp and LAVENDER EXTRACT soothes and clarifies the hair.

For extreme cases Last Tangle Salon offers a leave in treatment that can begin the healing process, followed up by using the Scalp relief at home and if needed the Scalp relief conditioner.

The Square Shaped Face

Posted on September 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Are you a square? We’re not talkin’ square as in nerdy, but is your face square-shaped? Hair for square-faced individuals is all about softening the edges.

You want to avoid cuts with “sharp” edges like angled bobs or styles that have blunt cut bangs. These style can put emphasis on your broad chin and forehead.

People with square-shaped faces can still do long or short styles, just make sure to add shorter pieces to frame the face. Asking your stylist for a cut that has graduated layers or razored ends to soften the strong lines of your jaw is a good idea.

For longer lengths, loose ringlets will help to balance out the box-like shape of your face.
