To start, you want to pay very close attention to where you place your ponytail.

“Positioning the ponytail at the nape of the neck will make for a strong, slightly somber look,” Neil explains. “A higher placement looks perky, more casual and will let hair swing more freely. Also, the appearance at the front of the head can have as much impact as the ponytail itself. “Adding a side part can instill a bit of masculinity while covering the ears will give a romantic feel and hint of the ‘60s,” Neil says. Finally, texture can alter the severity of the look. “Try diffusing hair at the top of the head to get a slight wave,” suggests Neil. “Then blow dry the side and back sections smooth for a bit of softness without losing the shape of the head.” – behindthechair.com
